Fixed prosthesis , preparation of the tooth
Tooth preparation is the term used to refer to all the procedures that a dentist performs on the tooth, preparing it to receive a restoration. When this is to be a fixed prosthesis, the preparation must achieve certain objectives, including: therapeutic objectives, eliminating all tissue affected by caries; biological objectives, avoiding damage to the pulp and periodontal tissues; mechanical objectives, providing sufficient resistance of the tooth remnant using the restoration material and cement; and, finally, esthetic objectives, giving the tooth a favorable appearance (25)(33).
