Orthodontic treatment in the adult, buccal and lingual technique
Adult orthodontics is a dental specialty that has advanced greatly in recent times. In general, porcelain brackets are used for esthetic reasons, although resin brackets are also available. There are various techniques for orthodontic fixation, such as the Begg technique and the edgewise appliance; however, due to the availability of new materials, particularly titanium nickel wires, a large majority of orthodontic specialists have now changed their treatment system. The technique that is coming into practice for its simplicity is the straight arch. The lingual technique involves the placement of brackets on the lingual side of the teeth, basically looking for a good esthetic result. This technique can achieve an easier expansion of the teeth, rapidly solving problems of deep overbite and, furthermore, reducing the risk of soft tissue lesions in athletes (40)(42)(48)(49)(50).
