Periodontal treatments
Periodontal treatment is the therapy that is performed in order to eliminate the infection affecting the tissues surrounding the tooth. The main objectives of this treatment are, on the one hand, to remove the bacterial plaque and, on the other, to suppress those elements that favor its formation. Of the dental treatments performed for this pathology, the most common is scaling and root planing, performed with curettes, which aims to eliminate the microorganisms, the areas of cementum contaminated by the organisms, and the dental calculus. Surgery may be used to expose the dental root in order to clean it, and bone grafts to replace the bone that has been lost (2)(4).
